We are recruiting a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English to small groups of young people with additional needs across Bexley, Havering and Reading.
This role focuses on supporting SEN learners aged 16–24 with EHCPs, helping them build confidence and achieve Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2. Class sizes are intentionally small, usually 2–4 learners, allowing you to adapt learning and give students the support they need to succeed.
Delivery takes place across several locations during the week:
• Monday – Bexley
• Tuesday – Work from home (planning and admin)
• Wednesday – Reading
• Thursday – Work from home (planning and preparation)
• Friday – Havering
Driving can be helpful but is not essential, as the Elizabeth Line provides a direct route to Reading.
Normal working hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm. Teaching sessions typically take place between 9:30am and 2:00pm, with the remainder of the day used for planning lessons, supporting learners and completing administration.
In this role you will deliver Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2, adapting learning for students with SEN and EHCPs. You will run engaging sessions for small groups, support learners with their confidence and progression, and monitor progress while maintaining learner records.
We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds, including Functional Skills Tutors, teachers or lecturers, teaching assistants with workshop delivery experience, or support staff who have experience teaching Maths or English.
You should have experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills Maths and English, experience working with SEN learners or adapted learning environments, strong communication and engagement skills, and a genuine passion for supporting young people who need additional support to succeed.
If you do not currently hold a teaching qualification, support may be available to help you gain a Level 3 teaching qualification.
The interview process consists of a panel interview with the education team followed by a short micro-teach session.
